  • election/race

I try to stay fairly well-informed on the election coverage..mostly by listening to Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh.. they seem to be two well-informed guys who have intelligent things to say..   I don't know what will happen to our country if Obama becomes our president.. the man doesn't seem to have a set plan for anything.. he is a very distinguished person, who can deliver a speech fairly well, but all the ties he has with his past pastor (Rev. White).. it's just a big mess.  And although he says that he has "left his church"  he's still very much a part of it, I mean he's been there for 20 years!  You can't just push out 20 years of your life spent with a church, building relationships.  He says it's best for him and the church..  After reading over Obama's website and then reading McCain's website... McCain clearly has a better outlook on issues that our country faces..    on a different subject...  the whole hillary vs. obama campaign...  it seems to be that it is becoming all about race..  now, I have to say I am not at all racist or have anything against anyone of another race/culture..  I see everyone as a human being..  For 3 years I lived withe 2 friends of mine and one of my roomies was black, and to this day, he's one of my very good friends.. I believe everyone should be treated the same way... nobody should have more rights than another.  I understand that Af.-Am's suffered during the times of slavery, but today, that is not an issue.  Unfortunately there are underground hate groups that protest the way they feel towards other races or religions.. and that, quite frankly is sad..  It's those people that need the love of Christ..  all we can really do is pray for them and ignore their messages of hate.  One thing that was brought up on "The View" was Josh Packwood (a white man aged 22) was accepted and attended Morehouse College in Georgia, he was selected, based on grades and other achievements to be valedictorian at graduation.  Apparently the first white person in 141 years to be the valedictorian.  96% of the students are Af.-Am.    http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/05/16/white.valedictorian/   this is an online article about the story.. but when he was on "The View" today, Sherri (one of the Af.-Am. hostesses on the show) asked him, "how does it feel to be the first white valedictorian at Morehouse?"  And i just think to myself... why does it matter if he's white?...he's a person...a human.   Another intriguing comment that Josh Packwood made on The View, was-- he was talking about a phone call that he had with the Dean of Students...  (apparently Packwood was involved in Track and Field activities)  Packwood said that while talking with him on the telephone, he assumed he was black... and made a comment saying (in regards to running track) "don't let the white boy beat ya!"  ...and Packwood said, "um.. have you looked at the front of my application?"... and after a minute of silence, the Dean looked at the race box, and white was checked..   he quickly tried to brush it off, and say, "oh.. uh.. yeah.. i know.. i was just playin'..."        my question is...is that racist what the dean said?...  could he get fired for saying something like that?... i dont know.  it's just crazy that we all can't just be humans in this world...   oh well, those are just some things that have been running through my head...and now i've said it.. and i'm done..   let me know your opinions..   Vote McCain!

  • The rains came down and the floods came up

Two days ago NE Kansas got hit hard with rain storms.  There was a lot of flooding, rescue teams needed to be utilized and several homes got flooded.  I saw footage and pictures of the aftermath of the flooding, and I thought it was pretty bad, but then I thought of the people in Greensburg, Ks, and even people in the South East who suffered from Katrina, and what we got was nothing.  A few years ago, when I moved out of my apartment, I had to put a lot of my things and belongings in storage.  We ended up putting them in my grandmas basement of her apt. complex... well as you know, basements and floods don't get along very well.  Since the creek runs behind her complex, flood water had leaked all through out the basement.  About 3 feet of water filled the entire area.  So, I borrowed one of those wet suits (wader) that you can get at Cabella's from church and went down with my dad and tried to pull out what we could get out of there.  A lot of my stuff was safe and above the water on a desk.  I know it's all just material things, but some of my things that were under the water were very special to me, like my baseball card collection (which is in my garage hopefully drying out), a bunch of high school memories, pictures from camps, school, etc..  the good news is that the pictures all dried out, so it wasn't a total loss, just kind of frustrating.  God was definitely looking out, though..because it could have been way worse, and like I said.. even though they were precious memories, they are just material things that when it all comes down to it, don't even matter in this life.    So, later on we'll have to go back down and clean out the rest of the storage room.  Thankfully, all the water has gone down!

In new news, I'm going to be the youth intern at my church.  I'm pretty excited about that.  I can't wait to work with the youth this summer..it's gonna be a blast, I love hangin' with those all those kids...although, they are not really kids.. especially the seniors, it's going to be sad to see them go, but at the same time I'm so proud of each of them, if you all are reading this, I will miss you all, but I know each of you are going to be successful at whatever you do.  It's gonna be a fun summer..

One thing I like to do when I see a grocery store clerk pushing 30 carts across the parking lot is say, "Hey, someone else might need to use those!!"

tomorrow, I sub at an elementary school in music.. so that'll be fun.  so.. I'm out.

  • I heard the most absurd thing ever on the radio yesterday..  A group of college kids got expelled from their school for attending a Christian concert in Disney World.. and it wasn't even school affiliated.  Students are getting expelled and low grades because they are not believing in what their teachers believe.

This is pretty cool though... yesterday, I was subbing at an elementary school for a Kindergarten class.  This lady came in to talk to the kids about...we'll just say "bullying."  She asked them to name some things that people can do that are mean, and then she asked how it made you feel.  Then she asked who can you go to make you feel better...and of course all the answers you would expect to hear, i.e. mom, dad, g. ma, g. pa, aunt, unlce, siblings, etc...   but one little girl raised her hand and spoke confidently and said, "The Lord."   It was the sweetest thing, i mean this girl was around 5 or 6 years old.  I was really proud of her.  Then towards the end of the day, we were in a tornado warning, and so we were locked down until the "all clear" was made.  Remember in elementary school when the tornado drill would happen, and everyone would rush into the hallway, crouch into a little ball, and put your hands over your head?  When I was young, I always thought, why don't the teachers have to do this too...and what will happen to them if we are hit..??"  hm.. oh well.

Good news.. I found my choir music... it was never really lost.. I had just misplaced it.

Well, tonite is charch..and I'm meeting with the elders about the youth intern position this summer.. so, that'll be cool.

  • interesting enough

Today was a sad day for me and few of my friends.. Picture People is closed.. we packed up the store today.  As many of you know, I have worked at picture people for 6 years... it doesn't sound like a long time, but when you've had the same job for that long, it certainly is.  Yesterday, I got a call from my manager saying to be at the store at 9:30 this morning for a mandatory staff meeting..  well, I got there, and my DM was there only to tell me that yesterday was the last day of business for our store.. I was pretty upset, I mean, I had so much to do with that store, I was employed even before the studio was built.  I watched them build it, i helped set up and I created memories for thousands of people from all over the states.  Of course the majority of our customers were from Kansas, but we had families come in to visit relatives from coast to coast.  I have a lot of memories from working there.  I definitely won't miss the complaints and screaming children... but sometimes the negative things make you into a better worker, and you learned from the things that stressed you out!  A lot of tears were shed over our store closing..  I just can't believe i'm never going to set foot in that store to work again.  I really did love that job, even if i did complain about it sometimes.  But, I know God will open another door for me..  Maybe this was His way of saying, "focus on your music ed!"  Which I really need to do..  I need some prayers..  so, if you're reading this, which I hope you are..(it's not that long..)  i've got two more sections to take of the PPST..the test that i need to pass in order to take 6 more bloody classes for my music ed degree..  just pray that I focus on this test and do well!  I guess I need to find another job too..      okay my babies..  i'm out..  good nite.
